Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Flight Training

 OBJECTIVE

The NVG Training Course objective is to provide the customer with academic and flight training for NVG Initial qualification, NVG Recurrent training, NVG Re-qualification training, NVG Transition training,  NVG Flight Instructor training, and crew resource management (CRM) and crew risk assessment / mitigation in order to operate in a safe and efficient manner while utilizing NVGs. 

DESCRIPTION

The NVG Training Course consists of academic and flight training curriculum for pilots, crew members, and ground personnel.  Training is conducted in accordance with standards and guidelines as set forth by the FAA. 

·         Academic Training: Academic training will include but is not limited to Introduction to NVGs, Limitations/Emergency Procedures, NVG Aero medical Consideration/Aviation Physiology (including visual illusions), NVG/Night Mission planning (including terrain interpretation), and Crew Resource Management (CRM) / Risk Mitigation.

·         Flight Training: The flight training will include detailed published tasks, conditions, standards, and descriptions of the normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures associated with NVG operations. The minimum flight maneuvers for training and evaluation will be per the FAA guidelines and the customer.

PREREQUISITES

Pilots must possess a current U.S. FAA Helicopter Private Pilot Certificate or higher, with appropriate ratings or the equivalent licenses issued by a foreign military or regulatory agency.  Other crew members, such as flight engineers or flight nurses, must have a valid license in which they are performing duties.

TRAINING TYPES

The following are definitions of training types for most flying operations that are utilizing NVGs 

NVG INITIAL QUALIFICATION TRAINING 

The training for pilots who are current and qualified in accordance with the applicable regulations for day and night operations, but have no previous night vision goggle qualification. 

NVG RECURRENT TRAINING 

The annual training for pilots who will continue to act as a pilot in a specific make and model aircraft during night vision goggle operations, and who have exceeded six calendar months since their last NVG operation. 

NVG RE-QUALIFICATION TRAINING 

The training for pilots who have been trained and qualified as a pilot employing night vision goggles, but have been unqualified for more than 12 months. 

NVG TRANSITION TRAINING 

The training for pilots who have been previously trained and qualified as a pilot employing night vision goggles and who are transitioning to a different aircraft make and model. 

NVG INSTRUCTOR PILOT TRAINING 

The training for pilots to serve as flight instructors employing night vision goggles.
